Tennis Tournament Trophies: 4 Design Directions Beyond the Plate 🎾

Wimbledon, the US Open, and Roland Garros each picked a completely different trophy form. There is no single right answer for tennis — which is good news if you are designing one this summer.

Plate, Cup, Bowl, or Sculptural Form

The Wimbledon Venus Rosewater Dish is a flat silver plate — gorgeous on a mantelpiece. The Davis Cup is a 4kg silver punch bowl — a real bowl, used as a bowl in winning team photos. The Coupe des Mousquetaires at Roland Garros is sculptural musketeer figures. For a club tournament, pick the form that suits where it will actually live after the ceremony.

Engraving the History Matters

Every Wimbledon dish has every winner since 1864 engraved on the back. That accumulated history is half the trophy's value. For a perpetual club trophy, leave generous engraving room from year one — at least a 30-year ribbon of empty space around the base. Future curators will thank you.
