Super Bowl LX kicks off Feb 8 at Levi's Stadium — the 60th edition of the championship. The Vince Lombardi Trophy has barely changed since Tiffany & Co. designed it in 1967. That is the lesson.
The Lombardi Trophy is silver, 22 inches tall, weighs ~3.2kg, and shows a single regulation-size football on a triangular base. No team logo, no year, no champion name on the trophy body itself (the new champion gets their name engraved later). Tiffany has produced one identical trophy every year for 60 years. For perpetual corporate trophies, the discipline to leave decoration off the trophy body — and put all year-specific content on a removable plaque or base — is the single biggest determinant of longevity.
Every Lombardi has come from the same Tiffany workshop using the same hand-spinning process. When you commission a perpetual trophy that will run for decades, locking the maker and the mould is more important than locking the design — because the design is on paper, but the maker is what reproduces it consistently. A trophy from a workshop that closes in year seven is a trophy that ends in year seven.
