The Royal Cremation Ceremony for King Bhumibol takes place October 26. Organizations holding award ceremonies between now and the end of mourning need to align ribbon palette, plaque material, and ceremony tone.

October 13-30: Postpone Where Possible

The two weeks bracketing the Royal Cremation Ceremony (Oct 13-30) are not appropriate for celebratory award ceremonies. Where possible, postpone to early November. Where ceremonies cannot be moved (academic-year deadlines, contractual milestones), strip celebratory elements: no music, subdued attire, brief speeches, no Champagne.

Post-Cremation Through Year-End: Subdued Palette

After October 30 and through December 2017, ceremonies can resume but the mourning palette continues. Plaque ribbons in deep navy, charcoal, antique gold. Trophy bases in dark hardwood rather than light beech. Engraved text in matte rather than glossy finish. The aesthetic restraint signals respect without making the recipient feel diminished.
