Medals worn at outdoor festivals come back gritty with sunscreen, sweat, talc, and float-water. Skip the cleaning and the plating dulls within weeks. Here is the 5-minute routine.

Lukewarm Water, Microfiber, Nothing Else

Skip silver polish — abrasive compounds will strip gold plating in one pass. Rinse the medal under lukewarm tap water, work a drop of mild dish soap with fingertips, then pat dry with microfiber cloth (not towel — fibers catch on bails). Air-dry with the hook upward to prevent water marks.

Store Separately, Always

Stacked medals in a drawer scuff each other within months. Slide each into a soft acid-free pouch (~฿8 each) or a printed display sleeve. For runners with a growing collection, a wall display rack costs less than re-plating one ruined finisher medal.
