Loy Krathong 2022 Craftsmanship Awards: A Tradition Worth Plaquing 🌸

Loy Krathong falls on November 8 this year. Krathong-making competitions across Thailand rarely match the craftsmanship being celebrated with their awards. Three material upgrades fix that imbalance.

Wood and Brass, Not Plastic Certificates

If the contest celebrates handcraft, the trophy should be handcrafted too. Plastic certificates handed to first-place krathong makers communicate the opposite message. A simple walnut plaque with brass nameplate (~฿380) matches the medium of the celebration — and lasts well past the festival.

Engrave the Specific Technique

'Best Krathong 2022' is fine. 'Best Krathong 2022 — banana-leaf weaving and marigold detail' is much better. Specific engraving honors the actual skill on display and gives the recipient a permanent record of what they made that night. Few extra characters, much more memorable plaque.
