Trophy Lighting at the Ceremony: 3 Rules Pro Photographers Use 💡

A reflective trophy under a venue overhead spotlight looks like a white blob on camera. Every ceremony photographer brings the same three lighting fixes — and they cost almost nothing to implement.

Two Side Lights, Never Just One Overhead

Position two soft LED panels at 45 degrees on either side of the trophy table at chest height. Avoid the venue's recessed downlight — it creates harsh top shadows that flatten the trophy in photos. A pair of consumer-grade LED panels (about ฿1,800 the pair) saves every ceremony photo from looking amateur.

Dark Backdrop Behind the Podium

Reflective trophies disappear against bright walls and white step-and-repeats. A 2m drop of black or deep-burgundy velour fabric behind the podium absorbs spill light and lets the metal trophies pop. About ฿600 to rent for a single night and reusable forever. Ceremony photographers will silently thank you.
